INNOCENCE CLAIMS DATABASE

Currently, the total number of Innocence Claims in England and Wales remains unknown. By Innocence Claims we refer to instances where a factually innocent individual has been unable to seek recourse either through a direct appeal or via a referral by the Criminal Cases Review Commission to the Court of Appeal. We are currently in the process of developing an interactive and comprehensive database dedicated to these claims. This registry will undergo thorough analysis using appropriate tools to ascertain the overall count, recurring causes and potential remedies. Determining the total count of Innocence Claims will aid in measuring the extent of the issue, while identifying the causes will provide an opportunity to combine similar cases with common causes and insights into potential areas for reforms as well as possible solutions.
