Founder and Background

Spoken Injustice was founded by Anna Doherty, a British-Italian, dually-qualified, non-practising solicitor, and former prosecutor with almost 20 years of experience. Anna is also a secondary victim of a miscarriage of justice. Her husband was wrongfully convicted in a misguided and botched private prosecution. Betrayed by the very system she served for nearly two decades, Anna set out to clear her husband’s name.

The Journey

Navigating through confusion and despair, Anna felt as though she was swimming, sometimes drowning, in search of hope. She encountered small lifeboats, all full, unable to offer her even a lifebuoy, let alone a seat. After an arduous journey, she found no place to voice the “injustice” she and her family endured, as it was deemed not “unjust” enough by prevailing standards.

Systemic Oversight

Miscarriages of justice often gain attention only when they result in long prison sentences. However, the impact can be equally devastating without prolonged incarceration. In Anna’s case, a significant consequence was the lost opportunity to adopt a child.

Our Mission

Spoken Injustice is an Island of Hope where ALL victims of miscarriages of justice can share their true narratives using their voices, bolstered by a restored presumption of innocence. It serves as a networking hub where victims can connect with each other, as well as with experts, practitioners, and advocates. Our core value is “Achieve Together!”

Our Goals

To H.U.M.A.N.I.S.E miscarriages of justice by highlighting their devastating impact on human lives.

To MINIMISE miscarriages of justice and ensure effective measures are in place to rectify them when they occur by staying updated on the law, exposing flaws within the Criminal Justice System, and examining potential reforms to uphold a fairer system. Visit our Reforms Page to find out all our reform proposals in details.

Breaking the Silence

The greatest injustice victims endure is being silenced. Once convicted, they are expected to live their lives as criminals, bearing all associated consequences. At Spoken Injustice, we address the mental health impact of this imposed silence.

Support and Community

Spoken Injustice provides a platform for victims to compare their stories, find solutions, and maintain their sanity. Here, they are not judged or told “there is no smoke without fire.”

Our Values

  • We speak with power but with dignity!
  • We are honest but respectful!
  • We are direct but not offensive!
  • We say what we think but we think what we say before we say it!

What We Are Not

  • Not a Law Firm: We do not provide legal advice but consult legal experts to assist with individual cases.
  • Not a Mental Health Helpline: We do not offer direct mental health services but seek insights from mental health experts on common issues.
  • Not Politically-Motivated: We have no private or public, financial or political agenda.

Spoken Injustice is a sanctuary for those wronged by the criminal justice system, offering support, community, and a voice to speak out against injustice.
